So my dining room has come a long way!
Still not done yet, but wanted to show my little table, and flooring update! I’ll be doing two separate posts since it’s a lot of info to cover!
This is my dining room before.
The biggest issue I had was the flooring. It was very orange, and next to the green tile that’s in the kitchen and hallway, it clashed BIG TIME!
I was working on a budget, and didn’t want to invest too much time/money. I thought about staining the wood to be darker, but I just didn’t like the wood at all. They were very thin boards.
I decided to go with a stick tile, which I’m also using in the basement. It looks like wood, and they come in planks. I would usually pull the wood up, and put it directly on the floor, but because of the height of the tiles, it wouldn’t match up, so I ended up having to go on top of the wood.
Stick tile is literally the easiest DIY to do. You just peel the back of it, and stick it down. At the end of one row, you just score the back with an xacto knife, and fold it back and forth, and it makes an nice cut. I would then use whatever was left for one row to start the beginning of the next, so that the boards aren’t perfectly lined up. You want the boards to be staggered, and make sure they are very close together.
I originally just HATED the green tile, and it’s still definitely not my favorite, but the new flooring looks a lot better against the green then the orange did.
Here is what it looks like now!
I really love this flooring so much, I can’t recommend it enough. You can find it at Home Depot HERE
Now I need to put up new white baseboards, transition strips, and have my chandelier hung, and we’re good to go!
